Head Start Programs

Head Start is a Federal program for pre-school children ages3-5 from low-income families.

The Head Start program is operated by local nonprofit organizations in almost every county in the country.

Some highlights of the Head Start program include:

Comprehensive preschool program, nutritious meals, bus transportation, monthly parent meetings, job opportunities, school funding for parents, social services, educational services, and medical screenings.

Children who attend Head Start participate in a variety of educational activities. They also receive healthy meals and snacks and enjoy playing indoors and outdoors in a safe setting.

Senior Centers

Rose Hill Community Center manages two Senior Centers.

One off-site, C&D Senior Center (100 Freedom Road, Newark, DE); and the other on-site, DeLaWarr.

Both centers are run by caring staff with the aid of helpful volunteers.

Programs and events are planned to promote social interaction, health, and education.

The C&D Senior Center 302-323-2630 is located off-site in the Liberty Terrace Apartments in Newark, DE provides a safe haven for seniors 50 and older.

The normal operating hours are Monday thru Thursday from 9 am till 2 pm.

The center offers a hot lunch program daily at noon.

Seniors enjoy arts and crafts, day trips, chair exercises, line dancing, fitness classes, exercises with weights, massage therapy, and more.

The DeLaWarr Senior Center 302-429-0581 is open to persons 50 years of age or older.

The normal operating hours are Monday thru Thursday from 9 am till 2 pm.

We offer a hot lunch program daily at noon.

Activities include Bible study, line dancing, crafts, local trips, bingo, cards, chair exercises, fitness classes, exercises with weights, massage therapy, and more. Free bus transportation to and from the Center is provided.

Teen Society

PURPOSE: To engage youth from the ages of 13-18 in the RHCC service area, preparing them for careers and college readiness as well as providing an area where they feel safe and can interact with their peers and purposeful adults in a relaxed but structured setting.

GOAL: Youth will congregate at the Rose Hill Community Center Monday-Friday from 2:15 pm - 8:00 pm. Homework help will be provided each day. One day a week will be dedicated to a specific educational activity. Youth utilize the events held at the community center for volunteering opportunities such as feeding the community, community center clean-up, community center holiday parties, and mentoring Boys and Girls Club participants.

SUPERVISION: Program staff assist with planning and engaging the youth with specific educational activities, provide homework help, and supervise interactive group activities.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Development of a Teen Council to create a sense of ownership in programming and to reduce at-risk behaviors

  • Teen referrals to other services as needed

  • Increase community teen awareness of the importance of preparing for careers and college opportunities

  • Volunteer credit hours to provide opportunities for teens to complete volunteer credit hours for high school graduation

  • Quarterly teen focus group

  • Quarterly parent meeting

Gaming nights, tobacco prevention sessions, basketball league, financial literacy workshops, bullying workshops, dealing with stress, sex education classes, Ripple Effect programming addresses all student’s social and emotional concerns.

The New Castle Boys and Girls Club has a line-up of tested, proven, and nationally recognized programs that address the most critical issues affecting today’s youth and provide them with the knowledge, skills, and attributes they need to pursue their dreams and succeed in life.

The Club promotes positive self-identity; educational, employment, social, emotional, and culture competencies; community and civic involvement; health and well-being; and a moral compass. Call for general membership information.

Supplemental Food Programs

Bea's Blessings Food Pantry

*Currently closed due to COVID-19

Participants will be able to shop for food and get what they need to make meals for a week.

Requirements:

  • Photo ID w/ Proof of Address (adults)

  • Social Security Card & Birth Certificate (minor child)

Occasionally, the Center will partner with other organizations as well, such as the Food Bank to achieve community outreach goals.

FEEDING THE COMMUNITY

Hot meals served to anyone who would like a homecooked meal. You do not need to bring anything just your appetite.

Wednesdays 4:00pm-5:00pm

FREE - On the last Wednesdays of the month, there will be dinner and a family-friendly movie.

Eyes on Christ

Free food is served 7 days a week at 12 noon. No matter the weather or if it’s a holiday.

This venture is made possible with Eyes on Christ Ministry and Brother James Parker.

Bacon's Boutique

The boutique is open Mondays and Tuesdays from 8am -11am and on Wednesdays from 5pm - 7pm. FREE clothes are provided for anyone in need. The items are updated weekly.

Donations are always welcomed, but we ask that contributions are gently used and clean. Donations can be dropped off weekdays between 7am - 6pm and weekends from 11am - 1pm.

Members can use this machine as a full-service ATM as well as transfer funds, withdraw cash, make deposits and loan payments, or speak directly with a live remote Del-One representative during business hours to answer questions and personally assist members with transactions.

Financial education seminars to learn about budgeting, understanding credit, and more will also be offered by Del-One.

Eyes on Christ   Community food distribution, makes fresh produce available to anyone who has a need. Donations come from local grocery stores and community agencies to help us meet the needs of those in our community.

Provides food 7 days a week:
